MTS Launches Mobile Service in Tamil Nadu

Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL), a joint venture between Sistema of Russia and Shyam group of India, has announced the launch of its global brand 'MTS' in India.

MTS will launch its CDMA-based mobile services in Tamil Nadu circle first. The company plans to expand pan-India over the coming months.

The company is offering its subscribers a scheme of one million minutes of free talk time to its customers with a limit of 150 minutes usage everyday.

Prospective subscribers can choose to purchase a handset from MTS, and they can also choose to use their own handset.

All local MTS-to-MTS calls will be charged at 35 paisa per minute; MTS-to-non MTS calls and calls to landlines will cost 70 paisa per minute. STD calls will cost Rs. 1.40 per minute. For ISD rates click here.

Local SMS (on all networks) will cost subscribers 50 paisa per SMS, while international messages will cost Rs. 5 per SMS.

The company aims to cover 560 cities and towns in Tamil Nadu within a month and will also launch its services in Kerala next week, followed by West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.

The MTS service will also be replacing Rainbow in Rajasthan.
