50 new car models to be launched in India in 2009


THE YEAR 2008 was not that good for the Indian car industry and many car manufacturers saw a dip in their sales. Now to overcome the problem and to sustain in the car market, the year 2009 will get to see launch of 50 new models.
It is being said that the new models will bring in some good fortune to car market, which is hit by the global recession. The new launch of 2009 was inaugurated with the Mahindra & Mahindra Xylo, which will be positioned against Toyota Innova. This will be followed by the petrol and the diesel version of Fiat Linea sedan giving a tough competition to Honda City, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Verna. Other new car from the Fiat stable waiting for the launch are Grande Punto from the hatchback segment and Bravo from the class of premium sedan.

Another much awaited launch will be the world’s cheapest car Nano from the house of Tata Motors. Tata Indicruz, a crossover vehicle and the new version of Indigo range built on the platform of Indica Vista is also on the launch list.
Another Indian car leader Maruti Suzuki will roll out Ritz or popularly known as Splash globally. Ritz, which will fall between A-star and Swift is expected to carry the KB series engine.

Japanese car manufacturer Honda will introduce its international success Jazz, which will challenge Skoda Fabia, Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20. Hyundai Motors plans to replace its Elantra with Avante sedan and also Santa FE from the SUV segment to India.

General Motors will roll out a car that will be priced below Spark and Cruze from the premium class. The automatic version of Captiva is also in the list.

German car manufacturer Volkswagen’s new plant in Maharashtra will launch Skoda Yeti, Roomster and Fabia’s Combi variant. There is also the possibility of small car Polo to enter the Indian car market. French car manufacturers Renault joint venture with Nissan will see few new launches. Megane from the hatchback and Sandero sedan from Renault fame and Micra hatchback and Murano SUV from Nissan portfolio.

From the luxury car segment, there is BMW 7-Series range, Mercedes-Benz with its new E-Class and also Alfa Romeo159 from Fiat.
