crore. Bookings for the Ghost have begun though deliveries will start only in the first quarter of 2010.

Keeping in mind the pace with which the number of high networth individuals are growing in India, (those with cash or assets of over $30 million) currently around 1,000, Rolls Royce plans to sell 75 cars in 2010. Rolls Royce regional director for Asia Pacific Colin Kelly told mediapersons, ”We expect to sell 75 cars in 2010 in India, of which Ghost will comprise 50-60 units”.

Last year, the company had sold 15 cars from the Phantom family. Phantom is Rolls Royce’s luxury saloon priced over Rs 3.5 crore. The cost of customisation will be extra.

Rolls Royce’s interest in India comes after the company cut down production by 35% in 2009 due to the global meltdown. It sold 1,212 cars last year and may close the year at under 1,000 cars. Led by India and China, the Asia Pacific market is the fastest growing market for Rolls Royce, its sales grew 4% in the region this year to account for 22% of its global sales.

“We are looking at India’s long term potential,” Mr Kelly said.
